Chapter One: Meet Abrielle Ainsley
Standing on the porch of her new home Abrielle Ainsley
smiled to herself. She had finally accomplished one of her biggest goals,
getting out of the home in which her parents resided. Abrielle’s childhood wasn’t
terrible by any means; she lived in a decent house with both of her parents,
and was allowed to do pretty much anything she desired. Sounds pretty great, but
for her it was far from that.
She grew up in the small rural town of Riverview, North
Carolina. As a child Abrielle thought life was good. Her parents bought her loads
of toys and always let her play at her friends’ houses. But as she got older
she realized what she once thought to be “love” was nothing like that. They
bought her toys to keep her busy, and sent her to friends’ houses so they could
get some more work done. They always seemed to care more about their work than
their only daughter.
With them it was always “Not now Abrielle.”
Or, “Maybe later Abrielle.”
So as Abrielle got older she started thinking of them as nothing
more than roommates, and soon they just became people she saw on her weekends
off from Smuggsworth Prep. Because as soon as Abrielle turned 15 her parents
enrolled her in boarding school. She could hear her mother and father argue
every night about whether Smuggsworth was the right choice or if Peace and Art
may be a better decision. But after a few weeks her father won out (just like
the schmoozer he is) and she was packing her bags to head off to her new home.
------
Smuggsworth wasn’t all that bad though. She met a lot of,
well, interesting people, and the boys there were decent looking. Within the
first week of school she had made a new friend, Kyler Gray. A lot of the girls
at school thought Kyler was a strange boy and never thought of pursuing him in
any way, but he was kind to Abrielle, and showed her the ropes. Soon they
became inseparable.
The more time they spent together, the more people could see
how much Kyler adored Abrielle, but it was an unrequited feeling because she
had her eyes on another boy. Jadrien Berkely. The boy of Smuggsworth. Every girl was crazy about Jadrien, so
Abrielle knew it would never go anywhere, but a girl can dream right?
Why is any of this important? Well, as soon as Abrielle
graduated she secured a job in Sunset Valley at Doo Peas Corporate Tower, which
was about a 35 minute drive from Riverview, and the town in which both Kyler
and Jadrien lived. Her parents had bought her a car (their reasoning being, hey
it will get her out of the house), so every day she drove back and forth from
home to work, and work home. Until finally, on her 21st birthday she
decided it was time to get out of her parents’ home. With the money she had in
savings she bought a town home in the middle of Sunset Valley.
And that brings us to the present, where Abrielle is now
zealously staring up at her new dwelling. But she couldn’t waste much more time
standing there; she was a practical person, and knew that if she wanted to keep
the house she would need to find a roommate.
