Chapter Ten: And so we meet Again
Part Two
At the restaurant Ryan ordered the most expensive bottle of
wine and even paid the violinist to play a song for Abrielle.
“Wow Ryan, that was amazing!” Abrielle reached across the
table and folded her hands around his.
“I just want this night to be perfect. I want you to
remember it for the rest of your life.” He leaned across the table and lightly
kissed her. “And actually, there’s something I want to do before we get our
food.” He looked at her nervously.
Abrielle giggle, “What now? A full orchestra?” When Ryan
just stared at her she felt as though whatever this was, it wasn’t a joking
matter.
Ryan pushed his chair back and got on the floor on one knee.
“Oh sweet Jesus.”
Abrielle gasped.
“Abrielle Ainsley, I know we have only been dating for two
months and thirteen days, but the time I have spent with you have been the
greatest moments of my life. I love you more than I can explain, and I want you
as my bride.” He smiled shyly and waited for Abrielle’s response.
Abrielle coughed, “Uh, wow Ry. Um I don’t really know what
to say…”
“Well you could say yes. That would be great since there are
about thirty people staring at us right now.” Ryan’s eye quickly darted around
the room and then landed back on Abrielle. His eyes were filled with
desperation.
“Look Ryan, you’re a great guy, but… but I don’t know if we
really know each other well enough to get engaged just yet. You understand
right?” the restaurant was filled with the hum of whispers as Ryan took his
seat.
“You know, Abrielle.” Ryan leaned close to her and fiercely
whispered, “The only thing I understand is that you’ve never loved me. All
these months I could tell that you were saving your heart for someone else. And
what you just did was very rude. You humiliated me in front of this entire
restaurant…”
He was mad, and Abrielle was perplexed. “Ryan, I didn’t do
it on purpose. My goal wasn’t to hurt you, I just don’t think it’s fair to you
if I were to lie and accept your proposal when it’s not where I think I belong
right now.”
“Whatever Abrielle. What I said moments ago is true though.
You love someone else. That’s clear to me and pretty much everyone else in
Sunset Valley now. So, I don’t think that with you is where I belong. Let’s just end things now.
Have a great life Abrielle.” Ryan pushed back his chair, threw a 100 dollar
bill on the table, and stormed out of the restaurant.
Abrielle was left sitting alone in the restaurant with
numerous pairs of eyes on her, but she didn’t care. All she could think about
were Ryan’s words, you love someone else.
Was that the reason she couldn’t bring herself to fully love
Ryan? Was that why she always felt as though something was missing?
Abrielle suddenly realized that it was. She was in love with
someone else. She always had been. And right now that someone else was sitting
at her house waiting for her.
