Chapter Seven: Wedding Bells are Ringing
As the weeks went by, and days crept ever more towards Kyler
and Maylee’s wedding, Abrielle found herself growing more and more wary about
the relationship she and Kyler shared. She was confused about the feelings she
had for Kyler, and wondered if he ever felt the same way. But that was where
things got difficult. He was getting married in less than a week, so obviously
she couldn’t go and declare her love for him. So she finally settled on the
decision of not telling him, because she cares about him so much, she’s not
going to ruin the happiest day of his life.
And so she had gone into a funk. A dark, depressing, and
very obvious funk. It was clear to everyone around her, her coworkers, Jenesis,
even Eric (who was spending a lot of time around the house).
------
It was the night before the wedding. Friday night, a night
where one is supposed to celebrate the weekend, but Abrielle wanted nothing
more than to sit on the couch and watch the food network. But of course, some
people couldn’t respect her wishes.
“Come on lazy, get your ass off the couch. We’re going out.”
Jenesis had just walked in from work.
“Hi, nice to see you too. Thanks, but no thanks. I’m fine
here.” Abrielle’s eyes never left the TV.
“Sorry girl, not happening this time.”
“I can’t stand to see you like this. I get you don’t want to
talk about it, whatever “it” is, but sitting around and pouting about it is not
going to help the matter. I promise you’ll have fun! Please?”
Jenesis was extremely serious for a change, and that made
Abrielle think that maybe she was being a bit dramatic if even Jenesis was
concerned.
“Alright, but I’m not playing dress up with you again.”
“Relax, we’re just going over to The Bar. Happy hour started
fifteen minutes ago, so we have to hurry! I’m going to get changed out of these work clothes and then I’ll be waiting in the car. Ready, set, GO!” Jenesis said laughing and ran
up the stairs to her room.
Abrielle however, slowly pulled herself off the couched and
shuffled to the staircase. She sighed and made her way to her room, where she
changed out of her sweats into jeans and a sweatshirt and pulled her hair into
a pony.
“Ok Abri. You seriously need to snap out of this!” she said
out loud to herself. “For yourself, for Jenesis, and for Kyler. Ok?” She tried
out a small smiled, and was relieved at how easily it returned to her face.
------
Abrielle woke up bright and early the next day (her and
Jenesis made sure that they didn’t overdo it on the drinks the night before)
and made her way to the bathroom to shower. She wanted to make sure she had
plenty of time to get ready, even though the wedding didn’t start until six
that night.
After her shower she stood in her towel in front of the
mirror putting her make up on, then found herself with a load of time to waste.
After all, she couldn’t do her hair or put her dress on yet. So she made her
way up to Jenesis’s room to see if she wanted to go out for breakfast.
As she got to the top step she started talking, “Hey Jen,
would you be up for break – Oh, sorry.” Abrielle stuttered as she noticed that
she was interrupting something.
“Hey Abrielle!” Eric said with a doofy smile.
“No worries A, we were just talking.” Jenesis said pulling herself
into a sitting position.
“Ha yeah, because you can’t have a proper conversation
unless you’re wearing minimal clothing.” Abrielle gave a thumbs up and laughed.
“Anyway, I was just wondering if you wanted to go out for
breakfast, but I can already guess your answer.”
“Well hey, would you want to stay in? I make some pretty
mean waffles. Plus, it would be nice to have a meal together.” Eric was already
standing up and pulling on a shirt.
“Uh, yeah I guess that would be… nice.” Abrielle looked at
Jenesis but she just shrugged. “Ok, well, I’ll be on the porch reading the
paper I guess.”
------
After their lovely breakfast of waffles, the morning flew
by, and before they knew it, Abrielle, Jenesis, and Eric were on their way to
Kyler and Maylee’s wedding.
They pulled up to the small park where Kyler and Maylee
decided to have their wedding right as the sun was beginning to set. Abrielle gasped. “SMALL?! Kyler said this was
going to be a small wedding. This is
not small! This – this is extravagant! Holy crap!”
Jenesis and Eric just laughed and got out of the car, but
Abrielle kept gawking.
The entire park was surrounded by bushes of beautiful roses
and dozens of butterflies floated around freely.
The alter was dead center, and behind it was a beautiful
gazebo with a flowered roof where the bride and groom could eat their dinner.
To the right of the alter was the dining area, with tables
and chairs, and a full bar. In between some of the tables were heart shaped
ponds lined with flowers.
But the most beautiful in Abrielle’s eyes, was on the left
side, where there was a large pond and a beautiful white bridge that led to the
other side of the pond and to a bench that was placed under a tree amongst more
beautiful flowers.
Abrielle later found out that according to Maylee’s parents,
this was a small wedding. Apparently
they had some money.
------
It was a gorgeous night and the ceremony was just as beautiful. Maylee looked exquisite and Kyler was radiating with love and happiness the entire time.
For the first time in weeks, Abrielle finally felt for her best friend how she should. She was proud and delighted to see him so extremely happy. She smiled through the entire thing.
Kyler placed the ring on his beloved’s finger and said, “I love you, Maylee. I know that you are the only one for me, my one true love. I am happy and I am grateful that you came into my life, that where others have spent their entire lives looking for the one, I have found you. And now that I have found you, I shall never let you go. I promise you, May, that I will hold you and cherish you and give you my heart, that I will support you and care for you. Faithfully, I will always stand steadfast at your side with your hand in mine, regardless of what life would bring to us. I take you now as my wife, and will remain so for the rest of my life.”
You could hear the tears in Maylee’s words and she placed the ring on Kyler’s finger and recited, “Today, I want you to know how lucky I feel for having found the one perfect person for me, the one who suits me so comfortably and who gives me joy and boundless hope and anticipation for the future. Every day we’re together, you do nothing but make me happy. The day we met was the day I became truly alive again, and today — our wedding day — I declare my love and devotion for you before the entire world. I make a vow to stand by your side through the best and worst of times, and to give you the best of what I have from now until the end of our days.”
They looked deeply into each other’s eyes, with radiant smiles on their faces,
And leaned in to seal their marriage with a kiss.
Everyone was overjoyed, and there was not a sour face in the
crowd, well except for Mark, Maylee’s brother, who apparently is a bit
overemotional.
Kyler’s mother beamed, extremely proud of her son.
Maylee’s parents were ebullient and Jenesis and Eric were
clapping enthusiastically.
Jaielle fist pumped and Abrielle started clapping. Both had smiles on their faces and were extremely happy for their best friends.
Yes, Abrielle had decided in that moment to let go of
whatever feelings she had before, and stand next to her best friend with great
support and care. After all, that’s what friends are truly for.

How do you make the bridge?!?! BTW the wedding is beautiful!
