Ch. 14: Say Yes

Chapter Fourteen: Say Yes

One month ago Kyler and Abrielle received the news they needed in order to start healing. They are returning to the happy couple they once were. This time they’re a happy, expecting couple. Not only that, but it has been two years since Kyler and Abrielle started dating, and Kyler had something special in store for Abrielle.

“Abri! Will you come downstairs please!” Kyler shouted up to his extremely slow girlfriend.

“Yeah yeah, I’m coming. Goodness, why are you so anxious to get out of the house?” Abrielle laughed as she descended down the stairs.

“I told you! We have somewhere to be!” Kyler smiled and took Abrielle’s hand practically dragging her towards the car.

-----

Abrielle sat in the car with her eyes closed waiting for Kyler to help her out. She heard the click of the door handle and felt the light breeze as the door was opened.

“Alright Ma’am, if you’ll just take my hand I’ll help you out of your vehicle.”

Abrielle laughed, “God you’re weird.” She found Kyler’s hand with her own and intertwined their fingers.

“But you love me.” Kyler squeezed her hand and helped her out of the car. “No peeking alright!”

If Abrielle had her eyes open she would have rolled them. “Yep, I know. You already gave me the spiel, no peaking or you take me home, and I don’t get this wonderful magnificent surprise that you have planned.” She heard crunching of gravel beneath her feet as she let Kyler lead her to their destination. Soon the gravel turned to something softer.

She could feel the plushy grass beneath her feet. She tried to take in her surroundings and listened even closer to the world around her. The leaves rustled in the breeze. Birds chirped and bees hummed. She heard a deep rumbling in the distance. Cars? She thought to herself but as they got closer to the sound she realized wherever they were, they were far from the city and the cars that populate it. A waterfall! When the identity of the sound hit Abrielle she started to open her eyes but Kyler was quick to cover them with his hand.

“Nuh uh! We’re almost there Miss Impatient! Then you can look.”

Kyler pulled Abrielle along for a few more moments and then finally removed his hands from her eyes.

As her eyes opened Abrielle took in the beautiful surroundings. At her feet was a blanket and food. A picnic for two. Looking up she saw the culprit of loud rumbling. It was indeed a magnificent waterfall. Stretching so far up she had to crane her neck to see the top.

“What is this place, Ky?”

Kyler smiled at her. “You like it?”

Abrielle returned his smile and nodded. “It’s beautiful.”

“I found it a few years back, not many people know about this clearing. Anyway, shall we eat?”

The couple sat down to their picnic and smiled at each other.

“This is perfect Ky. Happy anniversary.”

“Before we get too far into this meal, I have to get to the real surprise!”

“This wasn't the whole surprise!? Ha ha wow, alright.”

Kyler flashed Abrielle a boyish grin. “Abrielle, you know that I love you more than anything, that I would do absolutely anything for you. And I know we've both had imperfect relationships in the past. Temporary relationships. That’s all they were. But you and I have something different. I truly believe we have a forever kind of love. It’s not temporary, and it never will be. We've been through so much together and I want to be there with you through everything else. I want to be your's forever. Will you marry me?”

Abrielle smiled as a small tear rolled down her cheek. Then she whispered, “Of course Kyler.”
Kyler pulled Abrielle up into a hug and she giggled. This time she spoke louder, “Yes, of course! We’re going to get married!”

Kyler laughed, “I’m glad you’re so excited, it pretty much takes away all my nerves.”

Abrielle looked at Kyler and said, “You were nervous I’d say no?!”

“No, I was pretty sure you’d say yes, but it’s still nerve racking! Jeeze, you try and work up the nerve to ask someone to marry you and then make sure you get all the words right and don’t make a fool out of yourself!”

Abrielle smiled and giggled again. “Well, I think you did perfect!” She softly kissed him and then pulled away looking a bit more serious.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong…” Abrielle looked down at her feet and then whispered, “I just don’t want a big wedding.”

“Well that’s alright, can I ask why?” Kyler asked.

Abrielle shuffled her feet back and forth before saying, “Well, honestly, I just don’t want people to think I’m trying to upstage Maylee or anything. I don’t want any drama.”

“Oh Abri, you don’t need to worry about that! But if you want a small wedding, then it’s a small wedding you’ll get! Heck, you can have any wedding you want, as long as you’re marrying me.” Kyler smiled and then quickly added, “And as long as my parents are there.”

Abrielle laughed. “Well of course your parents will be there!”

“Aaaaand, what about yours?”

“Kyler. Please. My parents decided many years ago that they did not have a daughter and they are content with that. They chose to erase me from their lives, so I erased them from mine. End of that discussion.”

Kyler nodded his head in acceptance, put a smile on his face, and pulled Abrielle back to their picnic.

-----

The next day at breakfast Kyler and Abrielle start planning their wedding.

“Alright, so I think it would be perfect to have just a small wedding in the backyard. We’re right by the beach shore; it’ll be a perfect back drop.”

Kyler smiled. “The backyard it is.”

Abrielle smiled and then quickly said, “Um, do you think a month is enough time?”

Kyler’s eyes widened for a brief second before he could compose himself. “Well, it’ll be pushing it but we could probably make it happen.”

“Ok good! Because I really want this to be well before the baby comes. I mean, I’m already starting to show, so there’s no avoiding that, but at least I won’t be popping out a baby at the altar.”

Kyler laughed and agreed with Abrielle.

“Ok, and I think this is the last really important thing we need to discuss. Maid of Honor and Best Man?”

Abrielle looked at Kyler. Kyler looked at Abrielle. And at the same time they said “Jenesis and Eric.”

So it was set.
