Ch. 4 Pt. 2: New Beginnings

Chapter Four: New Beginnings
Part Two

It was like a scene out of movie. One where the boyfriend is a complete jerk and hits on your roommate and you end up throwing him to the curb, but you think nothing could ever happen like that in real life. Well, guess what? It was happening. And Abrielle wasn’t in the mood to deal with an ass like Jadrien.

She felt like kicking herself. Of course Jadrien would do something like that. Everyone had tried telling her but she never listened. Even when Kyler tried telling her. Kyler, who grew up with Jadrien, who knew him better than she did, who was her best friend and would never lie to her. She felt like an idiot. But could she just up and leave him right here? She was hoping this night would be special, but so far it was just… it was weird. Plain weird, and somewhat awkward.

“Jadrien? Would you be upset if we called it a night? Work was really stressful today, and I’m just not feeling up for this.” She gave him a small smile.

“Sure babe.” He was instantly up on his feet, pushing in his chair and heading to the door. Nice boyfriend, right?

“Jadrien?” He stopped, and with his hand on the doorknob he turned towards Abrielle.

“I don’t think this is working.” She said quietly. He raised one eyebrow and continued to stare.

“We’re not working. I just… well, we’re just not working.” Abrielle stared at her feet. Sure, anyone could tell he was a major douche, but she had grown to like him, so as tough as it is to believe, it was hard for her to do this.

“You’re breaking up with me?” He looked at her showing no emotion at all. And she simply nodded. “Ok cool. Have a good night.”

He opened the door and stepped out onto the porch, but stopped short of the stairs and turned around looking at Abrielle again. “Can I have your roommate’s number?”

“Are you kidding me?!” Now Abrielle wasn’t so sorry she was ending this.

Jadrien shrugged his shoulders, flashed her is winning grin, and sauntered down the steps to his car.
After his taillights were out of sight Abrielle sat back down at the table and stared at the plates of spaghetti in front of her. She couldn’t quite understand the emotions she was feeling. She felt sad because of the break up, but at the same time she felt utterly relieved that she had rid herself of another person that would bring her down.

A smile slowly started to play on her lips and said out loud to herself, “here’s to new beginnings.”
